On May 6, 2026, Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, met with H.E. Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that China and Sri Lanka share a friendly bilateral relationship. The two sides maintain close coordination and collaboration in international affairs, working together to uphold international fairness and justice. China is ready to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Sri Lanka in Geneva, continue to uphold multilateralism and jointly build a more just and equitable global governance system.

Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake stated that Sri Lanka and China enjoy a traditional friendship that has yielded fruitful results. Sri Lanka regards China as its most reliable strategic partner and highly appreciates China's important role in multilateral affairs. Sri Lanka looks forward to enhancing coordination with China to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
