On May 11, Ambassador Yu Dunhai met with Hon. Unyime Idem, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement of Nigeria.

Ambassador Yu stated that China-Nigeria relations have entered a “fast track” of development under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Tinubu, yielding fruitful results in practical cooperation across all fields. On May 1, 2026, China has officially implemented a zero-tariff policy for Nigeria and 52 other African countries with which it has diplomatic relations. This move helps Nigeria’s products share the dividends of China’s vast consumer market and drives sustained growth in bilateral trade. China stands ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, expand interactions at all levels, and continuously elevate China-Nigeria relations to new heights.

Hon. Idem spoke highly of China’s zero-tariff initiative for African countries, thanked China for its strong support for Nigeria’s economic and social development. Hon. Idem reaffirmed that the House of Representatives firmly upholds the one-China principle, and expressed readiness to strengthen exchanges with China to draw on China’s experience in national governance and state administration.
