On May 12, 2026, Ren Faqiang, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, paid a visit to Stellenbosch University(SU). He met and discussed with Prof Deresh Ramjugernath, the Rector and Vice-Chancellor of SU, and exchanged views on strengthening scientific and education cooperation, as well as people-to-people exchanges between China and South Africa.

Consul General Ren praised university for its achievements in advancing scientific and educational cooperation, cultural exchanges, and Chinese language teaching. He stated that the Consulate General would seize the opportunity of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges to continue supporting practical cooperation between universities in the fields of science, education, and culture with China.
Prof Deresh Ramjugernath welcomed the Consul General's visit, introduced the school's over 150-year development history and major achievements, expressed gratitude for the Consulate General's support of Chinese language teaching and cooperation with China, and stated that they would continue to deepen scientific, educational, and cultural cooperation with their counterparts in China.
