On May 13, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Yu Dunhai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, met with Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the People’s Republic of China.

Ambassador Yu congratulated Ambassador Dambazau on his forthcoming assumption of office. He noted that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the China–Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has maintained strong momentum. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria. China’s decision to grant zero-tariff treatment to all African countries having diplomatic relations with China, including Nigeria, has created significant new opportunities for bilateral relations. China stands ready to work with Nigeria to implement the important common understandings reached by the two Heads of State, consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen strategic alignment, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote China–Nigeria relations to a new height.

Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau said he was deeply honored to be appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to China and looked forward to taking up his new post with great confidence and anticipation. He pledged to spare no effort in advancing Nigeria–China relations. Ambassador Dambazau expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding and significant contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development, particularly China’s zero-tariff treatment for Nigeria. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s firm commitment to the one-China principle, stressing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.
