On June 28, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua paid a courtesy call on Ahmed Saleem, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives.

Ambassador Kong stated that China and the Maldives enjoy time-honored traditional friendship and stand as a fine model of equal-footed, mutually beneficial cooperation delivering win-win outcomes between countries of different sizes. The year 2026 marks the launch of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. China stands ready to work alongside the Maldivian side to fully implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, boost inter-party exchanges and cooperation, elevate bilateral relations to a higher level, and jointly advance the building of the China-Maldives community with a shared future.
Hon. Ahmed Saleem spoke highly of China-Maldives bilateral relations and constructive cooperation, and expressed sincere gratitude for China’s long-standing support and assistance to the Maldives’ economic and social development. He stated that the Maldivian Parliament cherishes the bilateral friendship and is ready to actively promote closer exchanges between political parties and legislative bodies, so as to foster a sound environment for deepening cooperation between the two nations.
