From August 5 to 6, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua visited Hanimaadhoo Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll to attend the closing ceremony of the Green Coconut Palm Pest Management Training Program and the inauguration of the Natural Enemy Breeding Center. During the visit, he also called on the Hanimaadhoo Island Council and visited the island's school and health center.

Ambassador Kong stated that the Assistance project on Coconut Tree Pest Control is a representative "Small yet Beautiful" project jointly supported by the leaders of China and the Maldives. Guided by the cooperative concept of "Teaching people how to fish is better than simply giving them fish," Chinese experts have helped Maldivian technicians master professional control skills, successfully overcoming the long-standing pest problems that have plagued coconut groves. The project vividly interprets the profound meaning of building a China–Maldives community with a shared future.

During his meeting with the Hanimaadhoo Island Council, Ambassador Kong Xianhua noted that China stands ready to further strengthen subnational exchanges and cooperation between China and the Maldives, and support the sustainable development of the island in such areas as modern agriculture and clean energy.
