On August 27th, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Professor Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The two sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation between China and the WMO as well as other issues.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that the global climate landscape is becoming increasingly complex. China will firmly support the WMO in playing a key role in the global meteorological governance and cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation with the WMO in areas such as early warning, and to share China’s AI-powered meteorological warning system MAZU with developing countries, with a view to contributing to global prevention and response to climate change and extreme weather.

Secretary-General Saulo recalled with pleasure the experience of her visit to China in April, highly appreciated China’s warm reception to her and strong support to the WMO, as well as China’s contribution to enhancing Global South countries’ capacity building in early warning, and looked forward to further deepening coordination and cooperation with China to jointly address the global challenges of climate change.
