Li Yuanchao Addresses the Opening Ceremony of the Fourth World Peace Forum

On June 27, 2015, the fourth World Peace Forum (WPF) was held at the Tsinghua University. Vice President Li Yuanchao attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

This year’s WPF, under the theme of Overcome Difficulties, Understanding, Consultation and Reciprocity, was attended by its Chairman Tang Jiaxuan and about 500 honored guests from home and abroad.

Li Yuanchao expressed that in the current world, the commonalities in development, interests, challenges and governance of all countries are becoming more and more prominent, and the mankind is more and more becoming a community of common destiny sailing on the same boat. The fate of Chinese people and people around the world is closely linked and shares weal and woe, and China serves as positive advocator, practical builder and firm defender of common destiny community of mankind. Peace and security are preconditions of common development for mankind, therefore we should, in the spirit of understanding, consultation and reciprocity, achieve friendship, respect and equality through understanding thus cement the mutual trust foundation for peace and security; achieve peace, harmony and reconciliation through consultation in an effort for the harmonious co-existence among different nations, religions and cultures and for the peaceful co-existence among different countries, systems and societies; achieve common development, jointly overcome difficulties of the times and cooperate for win-win results through reciprocity thus promote the new type of global development partnership in a more equal and balanced way and together build a community of shared peace, security and fate for mankind.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Li Yuanchao met with former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin of France, former Prime Minister Kevin Michael Rudd of Australia, former Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Stephen John Hadley of the US, former High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana of the EU, former Secretary of the Security Council Igor Vasilyevich Ivanov of the Russian Federation, former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran of India and other foreign political heavyweights attending the WPF.
