On the morning of April 17, 2025 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Phnom Penh by special plane for a state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia.
When he arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport by special plane, Xi Jinping was warmly greeted by King Norodom Sihamoni, along with Prince Norodom Chakrapong, Princess Norodom Arunrasmy, and other members of the royal family, as well as by President of the People's Party and President of the Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen, First Vice President of the National Assembly Cheam Yeap, and five Deputy Prime Ministers including Kuy Sophal, Prak Sokhonn, Hang Chuon Naron, Sar Sokha, and Hun Many. The honor guards lined up on both sides of the red carpet. Princess Norodom Jenna of the Cambodian royal family presented Xi Jinping with a jasmine flower garland, while young women scattered flower petals onto the red carpet.
Norodom Sihamoni held a grand welcome ceremony for Xi Jinping at the airport.
As the two heads of state stepped onto the stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Cambodia. Accompanied by Norodom Sihamoni, Xi Jinping reviewed the guard of honor. The two heads of state shook hands and exchanged greetings with each other's accompanying officials.
Hundreds of local people waved the national flags of both countries and held red banners reading "Long live Cambodia-China Friendship, Unity, and Cooperation!" to warmly welcome Xi Jinping's visit.
Xi Jinping made a written statement, extending his best New Year wishes to the Cambodian government and people on the occasion of the Khmer New Year.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the China-Cambodia relationship was forged and carefully nurtured by the elder generation of leaders from both countries. It has withstood the test of the evolving international landscape and remains as solid as a rock. The two countries took the lead in building a bilateral community with a shared future and launching the Belt and Road cooperation. The two countries have supported each other in maintaining the stability of their respective countries and promoting development and prosperity. The two sides have also worked in solidarity and cooperation to defend international fairness and justice, setting an example for building a new type of international relations and contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Xi Jinping looks forward to renewing friendship and seeking development with Cambodian leaders to continuously enrich the "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework, deepen strategic coordination, bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries, and inject more positive energy into the peace and stability of the region and the world at large.
Cai Qi, Wang Yi, Wang Xiaohong, and other members of the entourage arrived on the same plane.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin also greeted Xi Jinping at the airport.
When Xi Jinping's motorcade drove from the airport to the hotel, the national flags of China and Cambodia fluttered in the wind. More than 20,000 local people as well as representatives from overseas Chinese, Chinese-funded enterprises, and Chinese students gathered on both sides of the road, waving the national flags of China and Cambodia and holding photos of the two countries' leaders to warmly welcome Xi Jinping's visit.
