On the afternoon of May 7, 2025, President Xi Jinping left Beijing by special plane for Moscow to pay a state visit to Russia and attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi Jinping's entourage includes Cai Qi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
