On the morning of June 10, 2025, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Jae-myung.

Xi Jinping extended his congratulations once again on Lee Jae-myung's election as president. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the ROK are close neighbors. Over the past 33 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have risen above differences in ideology and social systems, actively promoted exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and helped each other succeed and achieve common development. A sound, stable, and steadily deepening China-ROK relationship serves the fundamental interests of both nations, and contributes to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and the ROK need to uphold the shared commitment that led to the establishment of diplomatic ties, firmly promote good neighborliness and friendly ties, pursue win-win cooperation, and work together to advance the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership, to bring greater benefits to the people of both countries and inject more certainty into the fast-changing and uncertain regional and international landscape. The two sides should strengthen exchanges at all levels and in all fields and increase strategic mutual trust; enhance bilateral cooperation and multilateral coordination, jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade, and ensure the stable and smooth functioning of global and regional industrial and supply chains; deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, foster mutual understanding and consolidate the foundation of public support, so that the friendship between China and the ROK will take root in the hearts of both peoples. Both sides should respect each other's core interests and major concerns, firmly steer the overall direction of bilateral relations, and ensure that the China-ROK relationship always moves forward on the right track.

Lee Jae-myung expressed his agreement, saying that the ROK and China share geographical proximity, a long history of interactions, and close economic, trade and cultural ties. He admired the great achievements China has made under President Xi Jinping's outstanding leadership. Lee Jae-myung said that he attaches great importance to the ROK-China relations and is willing to work with the Chinese side to promote the in-depth development of the good-neighborly and friendly relations between the two countries, improve and enhance goodwill between the two peoples, and achieve more fruitful results in the ROK-China cooperation.
