Zhao Leji and Wang Huning Respectively Meet with President of the Senate of Madagascar Richard Ravalomanana

On July 22, 2025, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning respectively met with President of the Senate of Madagascar Richard Ravalomanana in Beijing.

During the meeting, Zhao Leji stated that the friendship between China and Madagascar has a long history and has grown stronger over time. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Andry Nirina Rajoelina, bilateral relations have shown strong momentum of development. China is ready to work with Madagascar to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), to achieve more new fruitful results in friendly cooperation between the two countries and contribute to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era. He expressed hope that the legislative bodies of the two countries will strengthen exchanges and cooperation to support the continuous advancement of the China-Madagascar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Richard Ravalomanana noted that Madagascar and China enjoy a deep traditional friendship and that bilateral relations are built on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The close exchanges between the two heads of state have charted the course for the development of Madagascar-China relations. The Senate of Madagascar is willing to work with the Chinese side to enhance exchanges between legislative bodies and play a positive role in promoting cooperation in areas such as economy, trade and investment, as well as at the sub-national level.

During his meeting, Wang Huning said that China and Madagascar are companions and true friends on the path of modernization. President Xi Jinping and President Andry Nirina Rajoelina jointly decided to establish a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Madagascar, which has provided clear direction for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Madagascar to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and bring more practical cooperation outcomes to benefit the peoples of both countries. The National Committee of the CPPCC is ready to strengthen friendly exchanges with the Senate of Madagascar and contribute to the development of the China-Madagascar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Richard Ravalomanana expressed high appreciation for China's consistent adherence to the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation and treating Madagascar as equals. He said that Madagascar attaches great importance to developing relations with China, admires China's development achievements, and is willing to learn from China's experience to advance bilateral cooperation in various fields and for the benefit of both peoples. The Senate of Madagascar is willing to work with the National Committee of the CPPCC to strengthen the exchange of governance experience and promote the in-depth development of Madagascar-China relations.
