On the evening of September 2, 2025, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

President Xi pointed out that China and Malaysia are good friends with common vision. The two sides have stood together through the changing international landscape and advanced together on the paths toward modernization, ushering in a new “Golden 50 Years” for China-Malaysia relations. President Xi recalled his state visit to Malaysia in April this year, during which the two sides reached important consensus on building a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future. China is ready to work with Malaysia to advance the building of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, deliver more benefits to the two peoples, and contribute to peace and development in the region and the world.

President Xi stressed that the two sides need to accentuate the new characterization of bilateral relations as high-level and strategic, deepen all-round strategic coordination, and firmly support each other’s core interests and major concerns. The two sides should work together to become an inspiring example of cooperation on high-quality development in the region, strive to create highlights of cooperation in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, new energy, and semiconductors, and ensure the high-level development of key projects including the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” and the East Coast Rail Link. It is important to keep carrying out the Confucian-Islamic Civilizational Dialogue and strengthen the bonds of people-to-people exchanges. Closer multilateral coordination and collaboration are needed between the two sides to promote the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, jointly uphold international fairness and justice, and safeguard the common interests of the Global South.

Prime Minister Anwar noted that President Xi’s state visit to Malaysia was highly successful. It strongly boosted the bilateral relationship and brought it onto the fast track, which is well received by all sectors of Malaysian society. It is an honor to be in China to attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi addresses head-on the challenges confronting global governance. The Initiative features both advanced ideas and practical solutions, and is of great significance for enhancing global governance. Malaysia values the special strategic partnership with China and will continue to deepen cooperation across various fields to bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
