On September 9, 2025, Vice President Han Zheng attended the 2025 Global Energy Interconnection Conference in Beijing and delivered a speech.
Han Zheng said that in September 2015, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, proposing the building of a Global Energy Interconnection to meet global electricity demand in a clean and green way, providing China's solution for global energy transition and sustainable development. Over the past ten years, this initiative has received high recognition and active response from the international community.
Han Zheng pointed out that the global energy system is currently undergoing profound changes, and the low-carbon transition of the energy mix is accelerating. China has been a staunch doer in and an important contributor to global green development. In response to new changes and trends, President Xi Jinping proposed a new energy security strategy aimed at revolutionizing consumption, supply, technology, and institutions, while strengthening all-round international cooperation. This strategy has charted the course for China's energy development in the new era and blazed a new trail for energy development with Chinese characteristics.
Han Zheng put forward four proposals. First, jointly promote the green and low-carbon transition of energy. All countries should deepen cooperation in areas such as renewable energy generation, power grid interconnection, and smart energy, and facilitate the effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement.
Second, jointly promote innovation in energy technologies. All countries should collaborate on research and development of clean energy utilization technologies, and advance the deep integration of technologies in energy and electricity with modern information, new materials, advanced manufacturing and other fields.
Third, jointly promote sustainable energy development. All countries should strengthen cooperation on energy accessibility and help developing countries enhance their energy supply capacity and level.
Fourth, jointly promote cooperation on energy resources and production capacity. All countries should facilitate cross-national and cross-regional energy infrastructure connectivity to achieve complementary advantages, mutual benefits and win-win results.
The Global Energy Interconnection Conference was organized by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization. This year's conference is the seventh edition, with nearly a thousand guests from more than 100 countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, in attendance.
Before the start of the conference, Han Zheng toured the exhibition booths showcasing achievements and interacted and communicated with the responsible persons of participating organizations and enterprises.
