Xi Jinping Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on the 35th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Singapore

On October 3, 2025, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping noted that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important cooperation partners. Over the past 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have adhered to mutual respect, mutual trust and win-win cooperation, continuously upgrading bilateral relations and achieving fruitful results in cooperation across various fields. Both sides have moved forward hand in hand in advancing their respective modernization processes, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China is ready to take the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Singapore as an opportunity to further deepen political mutual trust, advance high-level cooperation, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system and the basic norms governing international relations, promote the greater development of the all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership between China and Singapore, and make greater contributions to the peace and prosperity of the region and the world.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam noted that in 2023, Singapore-China relations were elevated to an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership. The cooperative projects between the two governments have continued to advance, constantly integrating new features and demonstrating foresight. Both sides have actively expanded cooperation in new areas in response to the demands of the times, and the people of both countries have continuously strengthened cultural ties. Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed his firm belief that Singapore and China will continue to work closely together to bring bilateral relations to new heights.

On the same day, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong exchanged congratulatory messages. Li Qiang said that China is ready to further strengthen the synergy of development strategies with Singapore, deepen high-level cooperation across various fields, and work together to uphold the multilateral trading system, so as to contribute to the development of both countries as well as the prosperity and stability of the region.

Lawrence Wong said that Singapore-China relations have continued to deepen over the years, building high-level mutual trust. Singapore is willing to continuously expand cooperation with China in various fields and jointly safeguard free trade and the multilateral system.
