On the morning of April 15, 2026, President Xi Jinping met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping asked Sergei Lavrov to convey his sincere greetings to President Vladimir Putin. Xi Jinping noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. The bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has maintained high-level development, with fruitful outcomes in cooperation across various fields. In a fluid and turbulent world, the stability and certainty of China-Russia relations are truly valuable, and the strong vitality and exemplary significance of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation are more prominent than ever. The two sides should fully implement the important common understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and President Putin, strengthen strategic communication and enhance diplomatic coordination, so that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination will stand higher, develop more steadily and advance further.

Xi Jinping stressed that amid the profound changes unseen in a century, China and Russia should implement closer and stronger strategic coordination to firmly defend their legitimate interests, safeguard the unity of Global South countries, and shoulder their responsibilities as major countries and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. The two sides should maintain strategic resolve, trust and support each other, pursue common development, and manage their own affairs well. It is necessary to fully leverage the advantages of geographical proximity and complementarity, deepen all-round cooperation, and enhance the resilience of their respective development. Efforts should also be made to strengthen multilateral coordination, firmly uphold and practice multilateralism, jointly reinvigorate the authority and vitality of the UN, and maintain close coordination and cooperation within the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms, in pursuit of a more just and equitable international order.

Sergei Lavrov conveyed the sincere greetings and best regards of President Putin to President Xi Jinping. He noted that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, Russia-China relations have demonstrated strong resilience in a complex external environment, with sound momentum in trade and investment cooperation, increasingly close people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and close coordination on multilateral platforms such as the UN, the SCO, BRICS and APEC. Amid a grave and complex international situation, Russia stands ready to work with China to earnestly implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen practical cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, uphold international fairness and justice, and strive for greater progress in Russia-China relations, making greater contributions to world peace and stability.
