On April 29, 2026, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the Green and Sustainable Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Xi Jinping pointed out that China upholds the belief that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and is committed to a green development path that prioritizes ecological conservation, making it a participant, contributor and champion in global ecological endeavors.

Xi Jinping stressed that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the SCO and the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period. China stands ready to work with all parties to carry forward the “Shanghai Spirit”, demonstrate the SCO’s commitment to responsibility, strengthen policy alignment, experience sharing and project cooperation, advance the improvement of the global environmental governance system, and jointly build a clean, beautiful and sustainable world.

The forum opened on the same day in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province under the theme of “Advancing the Global Governance Initiative and Promoting SCO Green and Sustainable Development”. The forum was co-hosted by the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province.
