On September 2, 2026, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to newly crowned Norwegian King Haakon VIII, congratulating him on his accession to the throne.

Xi Jinping noted that although China and Norway are geographically far apart, the friendship between the two countries has deep roots. Norway was one of the first European countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. Over the 72 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, with the active support of the Norwegian royal family, bilateral relations have made significant progress, with cooperation in various fields constantly expanding, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples.
