Qin Gang Holds Talks with Secretary-General of the LAS Ahmed Aboul Gheit

On January 15, 2023 local time, Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo.

Qin Gang expressed that the first China-Arab States Summit successfully concluded last month with fruitful outcomes. Both sides agreed to build a China-Arab community with a shared future in the new era, charting the course for the development of China-Arab relations in the new era. It is of milestone importance. China is ready to work with Arab states to implement the summit's outcomes in the spirit of China-Arab friendship and speed up the implementation of the eight major cooperation initiatives proposed at the summit, so as to deliver more benefits to the Chinese and Arab peoples. Qin Gang called on the two sides to strengthen the building of mechanisms under the framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in order to elevate bilateral cooperation.

Qin Gang noted that China and Arab countries are developing countries with extensive common interests. China appreciates the Arab side's adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China's legitimate propositions. China also firmly supports Arab countries in solving regional security issues via solidarity and coordination, supports the Arab people in independently exploring their own development paths and supports the LAS in playing a greater role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. China is ready to strengthen its solidarity and cooperation with the LAS in jointly safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and defending international fairness and justice.

Gheit said that the first China-Arab States Summit was a complete success, and President Xi Jinping's excellent speech at the summit was well received in Arab countries. The Arab side, which appreciates China's effective and efficient implementation of the summit's consensus, is ready to strengthen communication with China on implementing the eight major cooperation initiatives one by one. Arab countries and China share common views on strengthening exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, opposing external interference and defending fairness and justice, among others. Gheit thanked China for the long-time upholding of justice in the international arena, the support for Arab countries’ development and the unity of the LAS, and the help provided for Arab countries in the successful fight against the pandemic. Gheit said he looked forward to further deepening Arab-China cooperation in various fields and promoting regional peace, stability, and development. More Chinese citizens are welcome to visit Egypt and other Arab countries for sightseeing or carrying out economic and trade cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and concern.
