On December 3 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Johannesburg with President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti.

Xi Jinping noted that China attaches great importance to China-Djibouti relations and is grateful to Djibouti for the support and convenience it provided to Chinese fleets conducting escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somalia waters, as well as its support to the Chinese side when China evacuated its citizens from Yemen. China stands ready to promote the all-round practical cooperation with Djibouti and jointly set a good example for developing countries seeking win-win cooperation and common progress. Both countries should strengthen political mutual trust, keep close friendly exchanges at various levels and in various fields, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in logistics, trade, special economic zones, railways, ports and other fields. The Chinese side welcomes Djibouti's participation in the cooperation on the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road in proper ways and hopes to intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges including education and medical care. China is willing to work with Djibouti to strengthen security cooperation and beef up communication and coordination on major international and regional issues.

Ismaïl Omar Guelleh expressed that Djibouti speaks highly of the Chinese government developing relations with Africa under the principles of mutual respect, equity and mutual benefit and appreciates the Chinese side for its strong support to African countries including Djibouti in infrastructure construction, regional integration and other areas. Djibouti is ready to take part in the construction of China's "Belt and Road" and cement cooperation with China in sectors such as road, information technology and telecommunications.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
