On December 4 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Johannesburg with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Nigeria, and stands ready to, together with the Nigerian side, draw the new blueprint for and inject new impetus to the rapid and comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation featuring friendship and mutual benefits. Both sides should give full play to the two major advantages of traditional friendship and economic complementarities, enhance political mutual trust, maintain close and friendly exchanges of all levels in all areas and deepen cooperation in areas including infrastructure construction, industrial parks and zones, industrial connection, resources exploration and utilization, processing and manufacturing, related industrial production capacity and agricultural modernization so as to assist Nigeria in establishing and improving independent industrial system. Both sides should step up security and international cooperation and keep communication and coordination on major international and regional issues so as to safeguard the common interests of China, African nations and other developing countries.
Muhammadu Buhari noted that it is rather important for Nigeria and China to keep close high-level exchanges. He appreciates China's long-term support to Nigeria. The agriculture and infrastructure projects aided by China, in particular, are crucial to the economic development and livelihood improvement of Nigeria. The Nigerian side is willing to continue to boost cooperation with China in economy, security and other areas.
