United in Progress, Creating a Shared Future — Speech by Chinese Ambassador to Oman Lyu Jian’s at the Reception Celebrating the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China
Updated: October 14, 2025 22:39(From Chinese Embassy in The Sultanate of Oman)

Your Excellency Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, President of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones,
Distinguished members of the Honour Delegation,
Distinguished Ambassadors and spouses,
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening!

Today, we gather here to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Sultanate of Oman, I extend a very warm welcome to all of you. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported China's modernization and the cause of China-Oman friendship. On this festive occasion of nationwide celebration, I also wish to convey warm greetings and sincere thanks to all overseas Chinese compatriots in Oman, including employees of Chinese enterprises, volunteer Chinese language teachers, and the Chinese community.

Seventy-six years of trials and triumphs, seventy-six years of fruitful endeavors. Looking back on the extraordinary journey since the founding of New China, it is like a magnificent epic scroll. From poverty and weakness, from ruins awaiting recovery, to standing tall in the East, the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, have worked hard and forged ahead, creating a great miracle in the history of human development.

Despite shocks from various risks and challenges, this year China's GDP is expected to reach 19.63 trillion US dollars, with an average growth rate of 5.5%, contributing 30% to global economic growth. This year, China will formulate the "15th Five-Year Plan". From the first Five-Year Plan in the 1950s to today, China has consistently implemented its blueprint step by step, turning the grand goal of national rejuvenation into reality. Facts have proven that decoupling, cutting supply chains, and suppression will only strengthen China's resolve for self-reliance and resilience. China is fully capable of keeping its development firmly in its own hands.

Today, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, the Chinese people are vigorously striving for Chinese modernization. China no longer simply pursues rapid GDP growth, but is committed to high-quality development and high-standard opening up. We are accelerating the establishment of a new development paradigm, advancing industrial upgrading, developing new quality productive forces, and focusing on green, low-carbon development, scientific and technological innovation, and the digital economy. From "Made in China" to "Created in China", China's economy has been undergoing transformation.

China today not only boasts the world's largest networks of highways, high-speed rail, ports, power transmission, and broadband, but also leads with the largest installed capacity of wind power, solar power, 5G base stations, and EV charging facilities. China's share in exports of high-tech products has grown significantly (electric vehicles at 23%, 3D printing at 22%). It has become the world's largest holder of artificial intelligence patents, accounting for 60% of the global total.

China actively promotes an open world economy, bringing shared prosperity to all nations. The Belt and Road Initiative now includes over 150 countries and 30 international organizations, delivering benefits to people across the world. China has unilaterally expanded visa-free entry to 47 countries, and "China travel" has become a global trend. In 2024, inbound foreign visitors to China nearly doubled.

Friends,

Oman, a land with a brilliant ancient civilization, has long been a pearl on the Maritime Silk Road. Over a thousand years ago, brave Omani seafarers sailed across the seas to China's Guangzhou. During the Ming Dynasty, Admiral Zheng He's great fleet visited Oman several times, bringing peace and trade, and planting the seeds of friendship. This bond across time and space grew even stronger after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1978 on the basis of the one-China principle, and was elevated to a strategic partnership in 2018. Today, exchanges and cooperation between our two ancient civilizations are thriving with vitality.

Since the beginning of this year, President Xi Jinping and Sultan Haitham have exchanged letters multiple times, providing important top-level guidance for China-Oman relations. Under their strategic leadership, the alignment between Chinese modernization and Oman Vision 2040 has been accelerating, and cooperation across all levels and sectors has gained new momentum.

High-level exchanges have enhanced strategic trust. This year, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, Xiao Jie, successfully visited Oman, giving strong impetus to inter-parliamentary cooperation. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone call with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr, during which they exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and regional issues. The two foreign ministries also held successful strategic consultations.

Practical cooperation has promoted mutual benefit. In 2024, bilateral trade reached 36.7 billion US dollars, consolidating China's position as Oman's largest trading partner. A Chinese rocket successfully launched Oman's first artificial satellite. State Grid Corporation of China and Oman's national grid collaborated to build a unified, modern transmission network across Oman, greatly improving its stability. In particular, in green energy and green economy, our development strategies align, with both sides setting ambitious emission reduction goals. Bilateral cooperation has already delivered significant results, and holds enormous potential for the future. Furthermore, through training programs organized by China's Ministry of Commerce and companies like Huawei, more than 1,200 Omani government officials, business executives, and technicians have been trained.

People-to-people exchanges are strengthening mutual understanding. China has unilaterally granted visa-free entry to Omani citizens, opening wider channels for exchanges. Four Omani high schools have officially introduced Chinese language courses, and a "Chinese fever" is emerging.

In my nine months in Oman, I have grown to love this land and its people. Omanis are friendly, wise, humble, and sincere. Allow me to share a story about a friend. In July this year, I visited the Date Festival in South Al Batinah. While selecting a basket of dates from the many varieties on display, I had a delightful conversation with the vendor, and invited him to join our National Day reception. He gladly accepted. At that time, I only praised the deliciousness of his dates, but I did not know that he was also a poet-singer whose works are widely loved. His name is Mr. Humood. I am delighted that you are here with us tonight, Mr. Humood—welcome to you and your friends!

The friendship between China and Oman is like a pearl, becoming ever more lustrous with time; and like a date palm, rooted in the fertile soil of mutual respect and cooperation, bearing sweet fruit. Looking ahead, we are full of confidence in the bright future of China-Oman relations.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends,

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Not long ago, China held solemn commemorations. As the saying goes, "By reviewing history, one can learn lessons for the future." The international system established after World War II—with the United Nations at its core, international law as its foundation, and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as its guiding norms—laid the cornerstone of modern international relations and has ensured nearly eight decades of general peace and development. The multilateralism spirit and principle of sovereign equality embedded in this system have made undeniable historical contributions.

However, today, Cold War mentality, hegemonism, and protectionism continue to cast shadows, eroding the foundations of international trust and cooperation. New threats and challenges keep emerging, and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation. Humanity once again faces choices between peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win cooperation or zero-sum rivalry. Global governance stands at a new crossroads.

On September 1, 2025, at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting, President Xi Jinping solemnly put forward the Global Governance Initiative, defining its core principles: adhere to sovereign equality, abide by international rule of law, practice multilateralism, advocate the people-centered approach, and focus on taking real actions. This initiative systematically answers the questions of "who governs, how to govern, and for whom to govern", building upon the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. It carries profound and far-reaching significance for addressing today's global challenges.

Friends,

The Palestinian issue, lingering for more than half a century, continues to be a human tragedy and a test of global conscience and justice. The long-delayed realization of the Palestinian people's legitimate national rights and the establishment of an independent state is a historical injustice and a collective pain for the international community. China was among the first to recognize the State of Palestine, and we firmly support the two-State solution. We welcome the recent decisions by more countries to recognize the State of Palestine. We appreciate Oman and all Arab countries for their positive efforts in advancing the peace process. At this moment, we should unite more firmly, stand on the side of peace and justice, fairness and conscience, history and righteousness, uphold true multilateralism, and work for a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.

We firmly believe that justice may be delayed, but it will not be denied!

Friends,

As the Chinese saying goes, "Those with shared aspirations do not regard mountains and seas as far." China and Oman are good friends and good partners. Let us take the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China as a new starting point, work hand in hand, deepen practical cooperation in all fields, enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, jointly promote world peace and development, and together build a better future for humanity!

Finally, let us all wish:

Prosperity and strength to the People's Republic of China, happiness to its people!

Peace and prosperity to the Sultanate of Oman!

Everlasting friendship between China and Oman!

Good health and happiness to all friends present!

Thank you!
