Updated: June 18, 2026 21:20(From Chinese Embassy in Mauritius)

On June 14 and 18, 2026, Ambassador Huang Shifang published a byline article entitled “A Wave of Visits: Why China?” on Le Mauricien and l’Express. The full text is as follows:

China’s diplomatic agenda has been exceptionally dynamic recently. Since the beginning of this year, over two dozen of top-level delegations from across the world paid visits to China. In an era defined by unprecedented turbulence, uncertainty and distrust, why is China becoming increasingly popular among its international partners? Why did politicians and businessmen from China’s neighborhood, the Global South and the West all choose the same destination?

Deciphering the recipe of China’s success

Beyond welcoming ceremonies and official meetings, visitors to China were eager to immerse themselves in towns and villages, in high-tech labs and industrial parks, and in high-speed rail networks, wishing to decipher China’s secret recipe. It’s found that China’s success is mostly attributed to its self-determined path of development that suits its own national characteristics and conditions, prioritizes its people’s welfare and national rejuvenation, and accommodates the shared interests of the vast majority of mankind. Overarching strategic planning, people-centered approach, whole-process people’s democracy, coordinated and streamlined administration, poverty alleviation that left no one behind, high-quality productivity driven by innovation, non-stop reform and opening-up, pragmatism and hard-work are among key ingredients of China’s fast and vibrant modernization.

As the largest developing country with 1.4 billion population, though successful in many aspects, China is neither perfect nor self-contented. She is offering her visitors no common and single answer to their respective questions, but a way of thinking and an opportunity to reflect. Are there possibly better options and choices? What might be the missing ingredients for higher performance? And what does development really mean to their peoples and to the world as a whole?

Securing partnership for the future

American business delegates accompanying President Trump’s visit called the Chinese market an opportunity “not to be missed”. China and the United Kingdom agreed to expand cooperation in many areas particularly trade and education. The German Chancellor and 30 top German firms found their field trip to high-tech companies in Hangzhou exciting and inspiring, and so is their further cooperation with Chinese counterparts. The Republic of Korea realized mutual visits between heads of state with China within 2 months, and harvested another 15 documents for further practical cooperation with her largest trading partner. Since May 1st 2026, China’s 53 African partners have been granted zero-tariff treatment, which opens a door not only into a vast market but also into a shared future.

As China launches its 15th Five-Year Plan in 2026, there seems to be an increasing tacit agreement among her international partners that China is no longer an option but a must. To invest in China and relations with China is to invest in the future. From made in China, created in China, to intelligent manufacturing in China, there are still far more opportunities to come. China is determined to further expand opening-up at the institutional level. China is committed to building a more reliable and resilient global value and supply chain which is in the interest of all. Taking advantage of its pioneering green transition, digital transformation and development of new quality productive forces, China is willing to share its market, experiences and opportunities with her partners.

Seeking solutions to shared challenges

In an interconnected world where each and every one’s fortunes intertwine, China is always an advocate of communication, understanding and collaboration. The latest wave of visits to China witnessed not only fruitful bilateral cooperation between China and its partners, but also a series of meaningful diplomatic consultations that helped to set up frameworks for a better world.

The China-U.S. presidential meeting in Beijing decided to build a constructive bilateral relationship of strategic stability, so that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand. The latest China-Russia joint statement reaffirmed their commitment to a multipolar world with greater democracy and justice. Serbia and China issued the world’s first joint statement on supporting President Xi Jinping’s four global initiatives to advance development, security, civilization and governance. A China-Tajikistan joint statement reaffirmed support for the international system with the UN at its core, the international order based on international law, and true multilateralism. Regional countries including Iran, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates echoed China’s suggestions and proposals to de-escalate tensions, encourage talks and promote stability in the region. Mozambique and China agreed that the latter will join Africa’s efforts to respond to the spillover effects of the Middle East conflicts. Responding swiftly to the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa, China dispatched her medical team to the Democratic Republic of the Congo as the first international team to arrive in the country, and provided US$4 million emergency cash assistance to the DRC and the African Union.

During China’s recent rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in May, a strong call was voiced for reinvigorating the authority of the UN Charter and the role of the UN. China’s five propositions on defending, revitalizing and strengthening the UN forged consensus among representatives from over 100 countries, including more than 20 foreign ministers and senior officials.

The latest wave of visits to China speaks for itself. As the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius, I have been sparing no efforts to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and this beautiful country. With long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation based on solid political trust, there is every reason for our two sides to advance China-Mauritius relations to a new height, which our two peoples will certainly love to see. China is ready and fully committed, how about Mauritius?
