On December 24, H.E. Consul General Wang Yu published a signed article entitled “Jointly Advance Comprehensive Green Transition and Deepen China-Australia Green Cooperation” in the local newspaper Australian Chinese Daily. The full text is as follows:
Green development is an essential feature of Chinese modernization. Advancing the green and low-carbon transition of economic and social development is an inherent requirement for achieving high-quality development. The 15th Five-Year Plan provides overarching design and strategic guidance for China’s development in the next five years, with a dedicated chapter on “Accelerating the Green Transition across the Board and Building a Beautiful China”. At the recent Central Economic Work Conference, “Uphold the Guiding Role of the Dual-carbon Goals and Promote Comprehensive Green Transition” was identified as one of the eight key priorities for economic work in the coming year.
China has never stopped promoting green development. It has established the most systematic and comprehensive carbon reduction policy framework in the world, built the largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, the largest and most complete new energy industrial chain, and achieved the world’s largest and fastest promotion and adoption of new energy vehicles. It has contributed about one-fourth of the newly-added green areas worldwide, and ranks among the countries with the fastest decline in energy consumption intensity.
China has never let up in its efforts to promote global low-carbon transition. Its photovoltaic and wind power equipment and new energy vehicles have been exported to over 200 countries and regions, supplying 70 percent of the world’s wind power equipment and 80 percent of photovoltaic panels, which have helped to reduce the global cost of wind and photovoltaic power generation by more than 60 percent and 80 percent respectively. The wind power equipment and photovoltaic products China exported during the 14th Five-Year Plan period have reduced carbon emissions of around 4.1 billion tonnes in other countries.
China has never wavered in its commitment to addressing climate change. It is one of the first countries to become a party to the UNFCCC and to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement. By the end of October 2025, China had signed 55 memoranda of understanding on South-South cooperation to address climate change with 43 developing countries and had conducted over 300 sessions of capacity-building programs.
These achievements are rooted in China’s long-standing philosophy of green development. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the principle that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, as well as the fifth anniversary of the announcement of China’s dual-carbon goals. China is always a staunch doer and an important contributor to global green development. Working toward peaking carbon dioxide emissions and achieving carbon neutrality is our solemn commitment to the international community.
This year also marks the second decade of the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership. Through the joint efforts of both sides, China-Australia relations have emerged from a low point and regained positive momentum, delivering real benefits to both peoples. Treating each other as equals, seeking common ground while respecting differences, and mutually-beneficial cooperation serve the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples.
In July this year, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited China. One of the important Joint Outcomes of the China-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting was the agreement to continue or expand engagement in climate change, energy and environment, through agreement to establish a new Policy Dialogue on Steel Decarbonisation. With strong industrial complementarity and steadily expanding trade and economic cooperation, the two sides enjoy a solid foundation and broad prospects for deepening green cooperation.
We all share one planet and are one humanity. Addressing climate change and advancing green development require concerted efforts and concrete actions. China stands ready to work with Australia to promote global green and low-carbon transition, strengthen international collaboration on green technology and industry, and ensure the free flow of quality green products to better meet the needs of global sustainable development and jointly build a beautiful world where humanity and nature coexist in harmony.
