1970-1973 Staff Member of the Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau of the PRC

1973-1975 Studied at Bath University and London School of Economics, UK

1975-1978 Staff Member of the Department of Translation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

1978-1983 Attaché and then Third Secretary of the People's Republic of China to the United States

1983-1987 Second Secretary, Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Translation and Interpretation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

1987-1990 Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in San Francisco.

1990-1993 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Barbados and to Antigua and Barbuda.

1993-1994 Deputy Director General of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

1994-1995 Consul General (Ambassadorial-level) of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles

1995-1998 Minister of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the United States of America

1998-2001 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Australia

2001-2003 Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs

2003- Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs
