Previously named Yuan Ceyi with the alias of Dasan, Yuan Zhongxian is born in Changshan,HunanProvince. He joined the Socialist Youth League of China in 1922 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1924. In the same year, he entered the first term of theWhampoaMilitaryAcademyinGuangzhou. After having participated in the First Eastern Punitive Expedition against Warlord Chen Jiongming, he served as secretary of the Political Department of Whampoa Military Academy and took part in the Northern Expedition. In 1927, he joined in the August 1stNanchang Uprising. In 1929, he went to theSunYat-senUniversityinMoscowto study. In winter of 1930, he returned toChinaand was engaged with leading work in the army for a long period of time. After the founding of the People's Republic ofChina, he was transferred to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1950 he was designated the first Chinese Ambassador toIndia. In 1955, he was appointed Ambassador concurrently toNepal, the first Ambassador of China to the country.
