(1928.11.15-) Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (1982.4-1984.10), People's Republic of China
Born in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, Wen Yezhan went to North China People's Revolution University in 1949. In October 1950, he went to Korea following the Chinese People's Volunteers as Chief of the Translation and Interpretation Group. After joining in Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 1951, he took a series of positions, including Director of the Department for West-Asian and North-African Affairs, Counsellor for Political Affairs in the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria (1971-1972), Deputy Director General of the Department for West-Asian and North-African Affairs and the Department for African Affairs (1972-1979), Director General of the Department for African Affairs (1979 –1982). During his tenure of vice-foreign minister, he was in charge of matters concerning West Asia and North Africa, and supervising over the work of the Consular Department. From the end of 1982 to the beginning of 1983, he followed Premier Zhao Ziyang in the latter's visits to Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco. In August 1983, he led a delegation to attend the international conference on Palestine in Geneva. In March 1984, he accompanied Xi Zhongxun, Special Envoy of the People's Republic of China and Representative of the Central Committee of CPC, in his visit to Conakry to attend the funeral of President Toure. After 1985, he was posted in Egypt (1985-1987), Korea (1988 – 1990), and Canada (1990-1992) as Ambassador. He was member of the National Committee of the 8th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Deputy Director of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Member of the National Committee of the 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs. He is currently consultant to the China Society of International Friendly Liaisons and Vice-Chairman of Soong Ching Ling Foundation.
