Wang Youping

(1910.8.15 – 1995.3.28) Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People's Republic of China (1979.7-1982.1)

Born in Huantai County, Shandong Province, Wang Youping joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in 1931. In April 1931, he joined the Communist Party of China and went through the Long March. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served for a long time in the army, engaged with political leading work. In November 1949, he was transferred to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was the first Chinese Ambassador to four countries, including Romania (1950.8-1954.11), Norway (1955.6 – 1958.4), Cambodia (1958.9-1962.2), and Malaysia (1975.1-1977.4), and Ambassador to three countries, including Cuba (1964.5-1969.5), Viet Nam (1969.6-1974.8), and the Soviet Union (1977.9-1979.7). In March 1952, he attended the second National Congress of the Albanian Labor Party as representative of the Communist Party of China. From September to December 1979, in his tenure of vice-foreign minister, he led the Chinese delegation to Moscow twice in the capacity of Special Representative of the Chinese government to participate in negotiations on the relationship between China and the Soviet Union. From December 1981 to April 1982, he served as consultant to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was representative of the 12th and 13th National Party Congress, and representative of the 3rd and 5th National People's Congress, and member of the Central Advisory Commission of the Communist Party.
