2016-11-23 09:29

On November 22, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Santiago for his state visit to the Republic of Chile.

At around 2:20 p.m., President Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at the Santiago International Airport. When Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan stepped out of the cabin door, Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz of Chile and others greeted them beside the ramp. The honor guard lined up on both sides of the red carpet.

Xi Jinping extended sincere greetings and best wishes to the Chilean people. He pointed out that Chile is an important country in Latin America. As the first South American country to establish diplomatic relationship with the People's Republic of China, Chile has made many "firsts" in developing its relations with China. Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship 46 years ago, China and Chile have constantly deepened political mutual trust and obtained fruitful outcomes from exchanges and cooperation in various fields. At present, bilateral cooperation is facing broader prospects of development. My visit this time is to enhance traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and advance common development. I look forward to joining the Chilean leaders during this visit to jointly draw a blueprint for the development of China-Chile relations in the future. It is believed that this visit will certainly elevate bilateral relations to a new stage and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Li Baorong, Chinese Ambassador to Chile, also greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport.

Xi Jinping arrived in Chile after his attendance at the 24th APEC Economics Leaders' Meeting in Lima as well as his state visit to Peru.

Upon his departure from Peru, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski of Peru himself saw Xi Jinping and his wife off at the airport. Xi Jinping reviewed the guard of honor. The guards of courtesy lined up on both sides of the red carpet. The two heads of state bade farewell to each other in a friendly manner beside the ramp.
