On May 26, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Lao Ambassador to China Khamphao Ernthavanh. Liu Jinsong said that under the personal care and guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, China-Laos relations and the building of a community with a shared future are moving forward steadily. As a Lao proverb goes, "A fine tree should have leaves, and a gentleman should have friends." China and Laos have helped each other "to shoulder heavy loads and do rough work" and coordinated and cooperated closely, playing a constructive role in safeguarding true multilateralism and ASEAN centrality in regional cooperation. China, together with Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries will host a number of important international conferences within the year, marking an "Asian moment" for global governance. We are ready to work with Laos to promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Khamphao said, Laos has overcome the impact of the pandemic and maintained overall economic and social stability in recent years, which can't be separated from the all-round support and assistance from Chinese comrades. The Laos-China Railway, which has been in operation for nearly half a year, has far exceeded expectations in terms of passenger and freight volume, and strongly promoted economic recovery and improvement of people's livelihood in Laos. Laos hopes that more Lao products, especially readily marketable agricultural products, will be sold to China through the Laos-China Railway so as to help people along the line move forward on the broad path toward common prosperity by train.
