On June 1, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong and Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman had a cordial and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues. Liu Jinsong spoke highly of China and Bangladesh's solidarity in fighting the pandemic and appreciated the Bangladeshi government and people's understanding and support for China's pandemic prevention policy. Liu Jinsong said, China's "dynamic zero-COVID" policy conforms to China's national conditions and reflects the governance philosophy of putting people and life first. At present, the pandemic has been effectively brought under control in many parts of China. Normal economic order will be quickly restored and economic operation will soon return to the normal track.

China is ready to work with Bangladesh to uphold the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and expand cooperation in fields such as post-COVID economic recovery, poverty alleviation, climate change, digital economy and green development, so as to deliver more benefits to the two countries and peoples.

Zaman said, both Bangladesh and China have "people" in the country names. The Bangladeshi government also follows a people-centered approach and speaks highly of China's pandemic prevention policies and achievements. Bangladesh takes economic development as its top priority in national construction and is ready to upgrade economic and trade cooperation with China. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and operate in Bangladesh and promote the construction of major projects between the two countries to boost Bangladesh's economic construction and development.

Liu Jinsong pointed out, in his recent speech on China policy, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken put forward a "three-point approach" to China, i.e. "investment, alliance and competition", which reflects serious deviations in the United States' view of world and view of China and China-U.S. relations. The logic behind the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, AUKUS, the Quad grouping and the latest Indo-Pacific Economic Framework is U.S. "centrism" and "exceptionalism". As a Bangladeshi proverb puts it, "A cock is bold on his own dunghill." As a result, it will only bring disgrace to itself, and at the same time undermine the regional cooperation framework and create bloc confrontation. The United States should realize that "the tune may be finished, but no one will dance to the tune". Unipolar hegemony wins no support, block confrontation has no future, and building "small yards with high walls" and decoupling from or cutting off supply chains will bring no good to anyone. China believes that countries in the region, including Bangladesh, will bear in mind the fundamental interests of their own countries and the region, uphold independence, reject the Cold War mentality and bloc politics, safeguard true multilateralism and defend the hard-won environment for peace and development in the region.

Zaman said, guided by the policy of "friendship to all, malice to none" put forward by Bangladesh's Founding Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh is committed to developing friendly relations with other countries and opposes bloc confrontation and a "new Cold War".
