Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng Has In-depth Exchanges with Senior Officials of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa

On the afternoon of June 9, 2022 local time, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng held talks with Director-General of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Zane Dangor in Pretoria. Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Chen Xiaodong and Acting Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Boitumelo Makoko were present.

Wu Peng said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and South Africa, bilateral relations have achieved leapfrog development with close high-level exchanges, fruitful pragmatic cooperation, rich and colorful people-to-people and cultural exchanges and sound communication and coordination in international affairs. China is ready to work with South Africa, under the guidance of the consensus reached by the two heads of state, to comprehensively strengthen strategic communication and policy exchanges at all levels and in all areas, and focus on implementing the nine programs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the 10-year Strategic Plan on Cooperation between China and South Africa to consolidate cooperation in trade, investment and other areas of strength, carry out innovative cooperation in infrastructure construction, and expand cooperation in 5G, new energy, e-commerce and other emerging areas, so as to push the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level of development.

Dangor said, the South African government attaches great importance to developing relations with China. In recent years, the political mutual trust between South Africa and China has been deepened constantly. The two countries have carried out fruitful cooperation within such frameworks as the FOCAC, BRICS mechanism and the G20. The two countries have similar positions and sound coordination on international and regional hotspot issues. China has become one of South Africa's most important partners. South Africa looks forward to further deepening high-level exchanges with China, expanding practical cooperation, deepening people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthening cooperation in international affairs, and jointly upholding multilateralism and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries.

On the afternoon of the same day, Director-General Wu Peng also met with Special Envoy for Asian and BRICS Affairs of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Anil Sooklal. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on deepening bilateral relations, in particular strengthening cooperation within the BRICS mechanism, and other relevant issues.
