- Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong Meets with Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun

On June 10, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on China-Indonesia relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Liu Jinsong said, since the beginning of this year, China-Indonesia relations have maintained a strong momentum of development. President Xi Jinping had two phone conversations with President Joko Widodo, and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi maintained frequent communication with Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, providing strategic guidance and important support for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Indonesia to expand and enhance the new pattern featuring "four-wheel drive" of political, economic, cultural and maritime cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative, continue to lead regional cooperation, advance global governance, and set a good example of sincere cooperation among regional and developing countries.

Liu Jinsong said, global governance has entered an "Asian moment". At present, the world is far from tranquil. Regional development is confronted with food security, energy security, financial security, production and supply chain security, pandemic prevention security and other issues. However, Western countries have turned a blind eye to these issues and are busy forming their own "small clique", advancing their own geopolitical strategy and political agendas, and wantonly inciting ideological and camp confrontation. This does not serve the interests of China, Indonesia and other Asian countries and developing countries. China and Indonesia should seize the "Asian moment", jointly safeguard Asian tranquility, safeguard the hard-won situation of peace, stability and development in the Asian region, uphold international law and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, maintain the leading position of ASEAN in regional cooperation and the "ASEAN way", and uphold Asian values as well as development paths and political systems suited to national conditions of the countries. "In the face of all blows, not bending low, it still stands fast. Whether from east, west, south or north the wind doth blast." We need to stay focused on the Asia-Pacific, the fight against COVID-19, recovery, and development. We need to avoid being distracted by the agenda designed by others, avoid destroying existing multilateral mechanisms, and avoid deliberately breaking regional industrial and supply chains.

Liu Jinsong said, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), which serves the Indo-Pacific Strategy of the United States, is not equal-footed, not inclusive and delivers no economic benefits. As the Indonesian proverb goes, "A big spoon doesn't help fill the belly." It's just paying lip service. Countries in the region have a clearer view of the nature of the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy. What the United States claims is to support the centrality of ASEAN, but what it does is to make ASEAN its subordinate and vassal. What the United States promises is to invest more in ASEAN, but what it does is to "get something for nothing". What the United States peddles is to promote regional prosperity and development, but what it does is to push regional countries to "decouple" from and "break the supply and industrial chains" with China. What the United States proclaims is not to force regional countries to pick sides, but what it does is to lure and coerce regional countries to jointly contain China. What the United States trumpets is to return to multilateralism, but what it does is to form closed and exclusive "small cliques". What the United States alleges is to safeguard regional peace and stability, but what it does is to hype up hotspot issues and sow discord among regional countries in a low-cost way. What the United States declares is to uphold the "rules-based international order", but what it does is to impose the unilaterally-defined rules. Indonesian scholars pointed out that the United States intends to draw regional countries against China through the "framework", which does not meet the actual needs of regional countries and is not conducive to ASEAN's economic development. China stands ready to work with Indonesia and other countries in the region to oppose any attempt to create division or confrontation and undermine stability and prosperity, and jointly dedicate to regional peace, stability and development.

Djauhari Oratmangun said, the Indonesian government and people from all sectors speak highly of the development of Indonesia-China relations and look forward to further deepening practical cooperation with China in various fields. Indonesia is actively preparing for the G20 Summit to deliver fruitful results in the "Asian Moment" for global governance. An Indonesian proverb goes, "The higher the tree, the stronger the wind." It is precisely because of our fine and rapid development that we will encounter more and more external resistance and interference. But as long as we have a firm confidence, we will be able to overcome difficulties and achieve better development in the future. ASEAN has grown into a mature regional organization capable of making decisions independently. It will firmly advance open and inclusive cooperation and uphold peace and stability in Asia.
