On June 14, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Malawi Benard Sande jointly held the coordination meeting for practical cooperation. Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Malawi Wang Hao, Economic and Commercial Counselor Zhang Chunfa, and responsible officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Department of Human Resources Management and Development of Malawi attended the meeting.

Wu Peng said that China attaches great importance to developing China-Malawi relations and welcomes Malawi to join the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation. This year is the first year to implement the nine programs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China is ready to work with Malawi within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC, to strengthen the synergy between development strategies, jointly implement projects such as roads, communications and agricultural technology cooperation, expand trade cooperation, especially Malawi's exports to China, actively promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and personnel training, and carry out new cooperation in infrastructure construction and investment and financing in an orderly manner, so as to achieve more fruitful results in practical cooperation.

Sande said that Malawi-China relations have been developing rapidly in recent years and pragmatic cooperation has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. He believes that this visit will bring new opportunities for bilateral friendly cooperation. Malawi thanked China for all the assistance it has provided for Malawi's national development and improvement of people's well-being, and will actively participate in cooperation within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC. Malawi hopes to work with China to push for the smooth implementation of the agreed cooperation projects, and looks forward to greater support from China in terms of national development and the improvement of people's well-being to jointly create new highlights of Malawi-China cooperation.
