Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao Attends the 9th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Senior Officials' Meeting

On June 23, 2022, the 9th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Senior Officials' Meeting was held via video link. Senior Chinese Official of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) and Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao chaired the meeting with the senior official of Myanmar, the co-chair of the LMC. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The six parties jointly reviewed the progress of LMC over the past year, summarized cooperation experience and exchanged in-depth views on the next direction of cooperation and preparation for the seventh LMC Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Wu Jianghao said that the sixth LMC Foreign Ministers' Meeting was successfully held in Chongqing, China in June last year, during which the foreign ministers of the six countries gathered to show their determination and confidence in cooperation and inject new momentum into the sub-regional development. Over the past year, all departments and local authorities of the six countries have earnestly implemented the outcomes of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting, worked together to fight the pandemic, jointly boosted economic recovery, strengthened people-to-people and cultural exchanges, promoted the solid development of the LMC, and brought tangible benefits to people in countries along the Lancang-Mekong River.

Wu Jianghao stressed that in the face of the complicated international and regional situation, China will actively act on the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness in its neighborhood diplomacy, uphold common interests while putting friendship first, work with Mekong countries to facilitate the upgrading of LMC constantly, and strive to build a pioneering demonstration area featuring high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and cooperation under the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative.

All participants of the meeting spoke highly of the positive progress made by the LMC since its launch six years ago, and thanked China for supporting Mekong countries' pandemic response and post-pandemic recovery, economic development, and improvement of people's lives. They said that they will carry out closer cooperation with China to deepen good-neighborliness, friendship, solidarity and mutual trust, join hands to address risks and challenges, and continuously push the LMC to new heights.
