El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele Meets with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi

From June 22 to 24, 2022, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi visited El Salvador. On June 23, El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele met with visiting Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, practical cooperation, international and regional situations, and other topics. Chinese Ambassador to El Salvador Ou Jianhong attended the meeting.

Qiu Xiaoqi said, since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and El Salvador nearly four years ago, bilateral relations have witnessed rapid development, with constantly deepening political mutual trust, continuously expanding practical cooperation, and active and close people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China regards El Salvador as a trustworthy and important partner and firmly supports El Salvador in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions. China is ready to take the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as the guide to push bilateral relations to higher levels. At present, the international landscape is undergoing profound and complex changes. China is ready to join hands with El Salvador to promote international fairness and justice, advocate win-win cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative together, and move forward toward building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Bukele asked Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi to convey his cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping, saying that El Salvador firmly abides by the one-China principle, highly recognizes the people-centered governance philosophy put forward by President Xi Jinping, and admires China's brilliant achievements in development. El Salvador thanked China for its great support for the country's economic and social development and its fight against the pandemic, and fully realized that deepening relations with China can bring tangible benefits to El Salvador. El Salvador will unswervingly promote friendly cooperation with China, tap the potential of cooperation and constantly open up new prospects for bilateral relations. El Salvador highly appreciates China's firm commitment to upholding international fairness and justice as well as the rights and interests of developing countries and stands ready to work with China to oppose hegemonism and the Cold War mentality and jointly safeguard the international order underpinned by international law.

During his visit to El Salvador, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi also met with Acting Foreign Minister of El Salvador Adriana Mira, and the two sides had extensive and in-depth discussions on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.
