On February 24, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng attended upon invitation a networking event between the Cuban Embassy in China and the Foreign Ministry. Cuban Ambassador to China Carlos Miguel Pereira and representatives of relevant departments of the Foreign Ministry were present.

Xie Feng expressed in his remarks that under the joint guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the political mutual trust between China and Cuba has been deepening and bilateral relations have witnessed high-quality development. Xie Feng recalled the complete success of the state visit paid by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez's to China in November last year, during which the two heads of state jointly charted the course for the development of China-Cuba relations in the new era and agreed to work together to build a China-Cuba community with a shared future. China is ready to work with Cuba to follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state. The two foreign ministries, being in the lead of carrying forward the China-Cuba friendship and deepening exchanges and cooperation, should do a good job in this regard and make new contributions to the development of bilateral relations.

This year marks the beginning of full implementation of the guiding principles laid down at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and a new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects. While both the Two Sessions of China and the 10th National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba are around the corner, China is ready to work with Cuba to increase experience sharing on state governance, jointly promote innovation in socialist theories and progress in the practice, and open a new frontier in adapting Marxism to national contexts and the needs of the times, so as to guide a better development of our respective socialist causes.

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo delivered a video speech. She said that the Cuba-China relationship is a special and friendly one based on equality, trust, respect and recognition. President Díaz-Canel's visit to China last November was of milestone significance, with the two heads of state reaching important common understandings on the development of China-Cuba relations in the next stage. She noted close cooperation between the two foreign ministries and recalled her fruitful political consultations with Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng at the vice foreign ministerial level last August. Cuba appreciates China's support to the country on such issues as the U.S. blockade and the explosions at an oil storage facility, and will insist on its firm opposition on foreign interference in China's internal affairs. At the same time, Cuba will abide by the one-China principle, and work with China to deepen strategic coordination, advance the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the developing countries.

In his speech, Ambassador Pereira thanked the Chinese Foreign Ministry for its efforts to coordinate and promote bilateral cooperation over the years. He said that Cuba is ready to work with China to implement the important common understandings reached between the two state leaders, advance various cooperation agendas, continue the deepening of the brotherhood between Cuba and China, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice.

The event was permeated with a warm atmosphere. The guests and hosts enjoyed their nice conversations and interactions, and enhanced mutual understanding and friendship.
