Updated: May 08, 2026 20:46

At the invitation of Vice President Han Zheng, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam, will pay an official visit to China from May 11 to 15.

CCTV: Eighty years after the opening of the Tokyo Trials, a complete Chinese translation of the Transcripts of the proceedings of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (IMTFE) has been published in China. These transcripts are the core archives of the Tokyo Trials. They documented the tribunal’s entire proceedings that lasted for more than two years. The handwritten diaries by U.S. lawyer David Nelson Sutton who served as an assistant prosecutor at the Tokyo Trials, were recently uncovered and made public for the first time. What’s China’s comment?

Lin Jian: The IMTFE held a total of 818 court sessions, heard testimony from 419 witnesses, examined 4,336 pieces of evidence and formed nearly 50,000 pages of English transcripts of court proceedings. The Tribunal brought to light the wartime atrocities of Japanese militarism in Asian countries, ruled that militarist Japan waged a war of aggression, and condemned the Fascist war criminals to perpetual infamy. The publication of the Chinese translation of the transcripts and the diaries by Prosecutor Sutton once again spotlight the innumerable and ironclad war crimes of the Japanese militarists.

Eighty years on, the right-wing forces in Japan remain unrepentant over the history of the war and continue to try every means possible to whitewash the crime of aggression and instill a distorted view of history among the Japanese public. Some politicians even pay frequent visits to the Yasukuni war shrine where convicted Class-A war criminals are honored. Those moves are essentially attempts to negate the judgement of the Tokyo Trials and challenge the postwar international order.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson recently said that the Tokyo Trials had profound global legal and humanitarian significance. A former Japanese leader said publicly that history will repeat itself if the reason that led Japan to war goes unexamined, and that the tragedies must not happen again. He also noted that it has been 80 years since Japan’s defeat, war must definitely not be waged again, and the SDF must by no means be used as a tool of aggression.

History and truth shall not be erased. Principles and justice shall not be fudged. The postwar international order shall not be challenged. No peace-loving people in the world will ever allow the verdict on the war crimes to be reversed or stop saying no to Japanese neo-militarism.

BBC: Yesterday in London at the Old Bailey two British Hong Kong nationals were found guilty of working for Chinese intelligence as part of what is described as a spy operation. What’s your reaction?

Lin Jian: China has made its principled position clear on this case more than once. By arresting and suing Chinese nationals in the UK without any factual basis, and securing the conviction by abusing the law and judicial process, the UK is blatantly endorsing those seeking to destabilize Hong Kong. Such groundless accusations and smears against China are nothing but a typical political stunt. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes it, and has lodged serious protests against the UK.

We urge the UK to rectify its wrongdoings, stop its political manipulation against China, stop emboldening the anti-China, destabilizing forces, and preserve the hard-won positive momentum in China-UK relations.

The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation: Yesterday, Norwegian police arrested a Chinese woman accused for espionage. What is your reaction?

Lin Jian: I’m not familiar with the specific case you mentioned. China firmly rejects unwarranted accusation and vilification against China. We believe Norway will truly protect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals.

China-Arab TV: What does China think of the significance of Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi’s visit to Beijing, coming at a time when the U.S. is keeping up pressure amid tensions in the Middle East, and with President Trump’s upcoming visit to China just around the corner?

Lin Jian: The situation in the Gulf and Middle East is at a crucial juncture of whether peace will get a chance. China maintains communication with all parties, including Iran. Our aim is clear, that is, to deescalate tensions and promote the end of the conflict and realization of peace. China will continue to act in the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s four propositions, support countries in the Middle East to work for building a common home of good-neighborliness, development, security and cooperation, assist the resumption of peace talks and play a bigger role in restoring peace and tranquility to the Middle East.

Shenzhen TV: TIME recently released its list of the 10 most influential AI companies of 2026. Three Chinese firms made the cut, which is seen as a strong testament to the progress China has made in AI industrial and technological development. How would you respond to this?

Lin Jian: Many AI-related rankings have recognized Chinese companies and products, including consumer-facing AI applications and independently-developed open-source large language models. No doubt you have tried some of them. China’s edge in large-scale AI application, full-stack layout, and open-source ecosystems is directly attributable to its pursuit of self-reliant innovation and progress in science and technology.

Technological progress should be sought for the benefit of all humanity. Those who try to fence out others will only end up isolating themselves. China, committed to an open and win-win approach in AI innovation, has been stepping up efforts to foster a technological innovation ecosystem for good and for all. We look forward to seeing more foreign enterprises make a foray into China to test their mettle, dazzle the market, forge new strengths, and write success stories of innovation and growth together.

CGTN: We noted that some Western media and think tanks are peddling “China Shock 2.0,” saying that China is achieving fast development in high-tech sectors such as renewable energy and AI and relies on foreign markets to absorb its overcapacity, thus reducing the market share of developed countries and sending more serious shock waves to the global economy compared with the era of traditional manufacture industry. Foreign commentators also said that China Shock 2.0 argument ignores the genuine innovation occurring within the Chinese industrial ecosystem and that Chinese export is the exact booster of the global economy that is needed in the turbulent period and more indispensable than ever. What’s your comment?

Lin Jian: From the world’s factory to the world’s market and innovation powerhouse, China’s development is achieved through strong performance driven by innovation and brings tangible cooperation opportunities and space to the world. High-quality Chinese products represented by the “old three” of textiles, furniture and home appliances have stabilized the global industrial and supply chain, lowered the living cost of global consumers and eased the inflationary pressure worldwide. China’s green production capacity represented by the “new three” of electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels has bridged the gap between supply and demand in global green development and bolstered the global energy transition and low-carbon development. Moreover, China’s high-tech products represented by the “new new three” of robots, AI and innovative drugs have broken high-tech barriers and monopoly and enabled people in more countries to access affordable new technologies.

Openness and cooperation brings about progress and win-win result. China’s development has never been a “threat” to anyone but the source of growth advancing common development of all countries. What really creates “shocks” to the world has never been the innovation of Chinese companies and efficiency of Chinese industrial capacity, but protectionist moves of setting up barriers, decoupling and severing industrial and supply chains. China will stay committed to high-standard opening up, defend the multilateral trading system and provide more certainty and new impetus to the world economy with its own steady development.

Reuters: According to a report by Caixin, a large Chinese-owned refined oil tanker was attacked near the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday reportedly with China owner and crew marked on the vessel and with the fire breaking out on deck. What information can the Chinese side share about the incident and what actions is China taking in response to ensure the safety of its ships and crew operating in the region?

Lin Jian: Based on the information we have at this moment, the tanker in question is sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands with Chinese crew onboard. The vessel has not reported any crew casualties. The Strait of Hormuz is a strait for international navigation. China is deeply concerned that a large number of vessels along with their crew have been caught in the conflict and stranded in the strait. We believe it is in the common interest of regional countries and the international community to resume unimpeded passage through the strait as soon as possible and ensure the safety of civilian vessels and crew members. We call for concrete steps from relevant parties to prevent deterioration of the situation. China stands ready to work together with the international community and make sustained efforts to promote peace talks and deescalation.

NHK: U.S. President Donald Trump said that his visit to China will proceed as planned. When will China make an official announcement? What is China’s expectation for the summit meeting? What are the main topics that the two sides will discuss?

Lin Jian: China and the U.S. maintain communication on President Trump’s visit to China. I have no further information to share at the moment.

China-Arab TV: Since the fighting between the U.S., Israel and Iran began, China has been in close communication with Iran, the U.S. and other countries concerned in and outside the region. Iranian foreign minister visited China this week. Are there any high-level communication and exchanges between China and Israel? If so, can you give us more details?

Lin Jian: The current situation in the Middle East is at a critical stage of whether peace will get a chance. China maintains communication and exchanges at various levels with all parties concerned including Israel, which also includes high-level communication and exchanges you mentioned. China supports parties in resolving differences and disputes through political and diplomatic means, realizing a full and lasting ceasefire and upholding peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region. China stands ready to follow President Xi Jinping’s four propositions on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and work with the international community to continue playing a positive and constructive role to this end.

Beijing Daily: It is reported that the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU and KPMG issued a joint report which said that the EU is advancing the revision of its Cybersecurity Act. The Act would ban Chinese firms from participating in key infrastructure construction in the EU, and require the dismantling and replacement of large amounts of Chinese hardware in the next five years. The total cost would exceed €367.8 billion. What are China’s comments on this?

Lin Jian: Recently, China’s competent authorities submitted comments to the European Union regarding the draft revision of its Cybersecurity Act, expressing China’s serious concern and formal position. It is hoped that the EU side could treat this seriously. China is paying close attention to EU’s relevant moves of legislation, and stands ready to have dialogue and communication with the EU. We hope the EU could view the China-EU economic and trade relations in a comprehensive, objective and positive manner, abide by the WTO rules and market principles, and stop actions that hurt others while bringing no benefits to its own. If the EU side insists on revising the Act and treating Chinese firms in a discriminatory way, China will take resolute measures to safeguard the firms’ legitimate rights and interests.

Bloomberg: Honduras’ new president said his government needs to review his predecessor’s agreements with China. He also said that equipment from Huawei will be part of the review, and Honduras is in talks with the U.S. on using tech from Cisco. Does the foreign ministry have any comments on this?

Lin Jian: The report puts headline-grabbing sensationalism before journalistic ethics of reporting the truth, taking things out of context, misrepresenting facts and sowing discord. Let me stress, there is but one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is a prevailing international consensus and a basic norm governing international relations. It is the political foundation and prerequisite for the development of China-Honduras ties and bilateral cooperation. There is not the slightest room for ambiguity here. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras, the two sides have engaged in practical cooperation across various fields in the principle of mutual respect and equal consultation, delivering win-win outcomes that greatly benefit the two peoples and gaining popular support in both countries. Facts fully prove that upholding the one-China principle is the right choice that accords with the trend of history and our times, and serves the fundamental interests of Honduras and its people. The separatist attempts of “Taiwan independence” forces find no support and are doomed to fail.

As to the agreements between China and Honduras that you mentioned, I would like to stress that China-Honduras cooperation does not target any third party and should be free from disruptions from any third party. The legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the Chinese side must be fully respected.

CRI: Russia will hold Victory Day parade on May 9 in Moscow. The Kremlin previously said that there will be foreign guests invited to the parade. Can you provide information on who China will send this year to the event?

Lin Jian: According to the information I have, representatives from the Chinese embassy in Russia will attend the event upon invitation.

Reuters: A follow-up on my earlier question about the tanker that was attacked. Does this incident concern China? Do you have any more details about how this incident took place? Has China raised this with Iran? If so, what has been the outcomes of these deliberations?

Lin Jian: As I just said, China is deeply concerned that a large number of vessels along with their crew have been caught in the conflict and stranded in the strait. We believe it is in the common interest of regional countries and the international community to resume unimpeded passage through the strait as soon as possible and ensure the safety of civilian vessels and crew members. China will continue working with the international community to promote peace talks and deescalation.

AFP: The Paraguay president got a red carpet welcome in Taiwan today and met the Taiwan leader. What is China’s comment?

Lin Jian: I answered a related question yesterday. Let me reiterate, the one-China principle is a basic norm in international relations and a prevailing international consensus. On the basis of this principle, a total of 183 countries have established diplomatic relations with China. We urge the Paraguayan authorities to come to the right side of history as soon as possible, and make the right decision to recognize the one-China principle and sever so-called “diplomatic ties” with the Taiwan authorities.
