Today marks the 68th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The victory was a great triumph of justice over evil, light over darkness and progressive forces over reactionary elements.
In those years of untold hardships, the Chinese people waged unyielding and dauntless struggles and won a great victory in the war against Japanese aggression, making enormous national sacrifice for and indelible historical contribution to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Over the past sixty-eight years, China has traversed an extraordinary journey of development. The era in which the Chinese nation suffered weakness, poverty and willful external bullying was brought to an end once and for all. The Chinese nation has taken on a brand new look and stood rock-firm in the family of nations. On this solemn occasion, we deeply cherish the memory of the martyrs who heroically laid down their lives and the victims who lost their precious lives during that war.
Past experience, if not forgotten, serves as a guide for the future. Only by remembering that historical period of untold suffering and drawing hard lessons from it can we avoid repetition of similar tragedies. The victory of the Second World War, achieved after enormous sacrifice of countless martyrs, brooks no challenge. The post-War international order, established on just and impartial trial over and thorough condemnation of the Japanese militarism, must be upheld. Any attempt to overturn the verdict on Japan's history of invasion will be vehemently resisted and opposed by people of the victimized Asian countries and the international community. We urge Japan to adopt a responsible attitude toward history and future, truly honor its statements and commitments on reflecting on its history of aggresion and take concrete actions to win the trust from its Asian neighbors and the international community.
