From August 20 to 22, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Pakistan and hold the Sixth Round of China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

RT TV: Yesterday U.S. President Trump met with Zelenskyy and several European leaders at the White House. Does China have information about the meeting? What is the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s view on the meeting?

Mao Ning: China believes that dialogue and negotiation provides the only viable way out of the Ukraine crisis, and supports all efforts conducive to peace.

China News Service: To follow up on your announcement about Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s upcoming visit to Pakistan. Can you share the program and China’s expectation for the visit?

Mao Ning: This will be Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s second visit to Pakistan in three years, and the latest high-level exchange between China and Pakistan following recent bilateral meetings and visits. During the visit, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet with Pakistani leaders and hold the sixth round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The two sides will have in-depth communication on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest.

China and Pakistan are ironclad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners. Solid strategic mutual trust and frequent high-level exchanges are distinctive features of bilateral ties. In June last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid an official visit to China. In February this year, President Asif Ali Zardari paid a state visit to China and attended the Opening Ceremony of the Ninth Asian Winter Games. President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leaders have jointly provided strategic guidance for the growth of bilateral relations. China hopes to work with Pakistan through this visit to further deliver on the important common understandings between the leaders of the two countries, deepen strategic communication, expand practical cooperation in various areas, enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.

Xinhua News Agency: There has been new development in the situation about Ukraine. Under the current circumstances, what is China’s position on the Ukraine crisis? How does China see the prospects of resolving the crisis? What kind of peace agreement does China hope to see?

Mao Ning: China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear.

China did not create the Ukraine crisis, nor is China a party to it. Even so, China has since day one held an objective and fair position and promoted talks for peace. President Xi Jinping put forward four principles, namely, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be observed, the legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and all efforts conducive to a peaceful settlement of the crisis should be supported. These principles are all the more relevant given the current circumstances. We have also issued a position paper of the Chinese government, sent the special representative on several rounds of shuttle diplomacy, and launched the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis at the UN to speak out with a fair and objective voice and promote talks for peace. China stands ready to, in light of the will of the parties concerned and together with the rest of the international community, continue playing a constructive role for the political settlement of the crisis.

EFE: Different leaders have said in the last hours that President Putin and Zelenskyy may meet within two weeks. Since President Putin is expected in China in early September for the SCO summit and World War II commemorations, does China see the possibility that such a meeting could take place here?

Mao Ning: We do not respond to hypothetical questions.

AFP: Ukrainian President Zelenskyy told reporters outside the White House on Monday that he was ready for a bilateral meeting with Putin. President Trump has also spoken by phone with Putin and said that he would hold a three-way summit with the Ukrainian and Russian leaders. Just a follow-up question on how the Chinese Foreign Ministry views the talks held between Zelenskyy and Trump yesterday and how do you view a potential peace summit between Putin and Zelenskyy?

Beijing Youth Daily: The 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games held last weekend in Beijing attracted extensive attention from home and abroad. Robot teams from 15 countries participated in the Games. Some say that the Humanoid Robot Games demonstrates China’s competitiveness and influence in the fields of artificial intelligence and robots. China is seizing a leading edge in its technology competition with the United States. What is your comment on that?

Mao Ning: I saw some online videos of the Games which were quite fascinating. Humanoids are stepping out of the labs and into people’s lives. Over the past few months, China has hosted the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, the World Robot Conference and the World Humanoid Robot Games. The events not only showcased the innovations in AI and robotics, but also provided the world with new platforms for exchanges over frontier technologies and conversations on future industries.

China believes that only through openness and cooperation can innovation thrive and spur human progress. We are ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with all countries on innovation to create more possibilities for global development and modernization.

PTI: In the last several months, there is an uptick or probably substantial improvement of relations between Pakistan and the United States, especially between the militaries. How does China look at it? Considering the relations that China has with Pakistan, now that Pakistan is warming up to the U.S. on its own, does it concern China? And secondly, the visit to Pakistan comes close on the heels of the current visit of Mr. Wang Yi to Delhi. Will China take up India’s concerns related to the terrorism issues between India and Pakistan?

Mao Ning: The Pakistan-U.S. relationship is a matter between the two countries. China and Pakistan are ironclad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners, and our bilateral relationship is not affected by any third party and does not target any third party. Both India and Pakistan are China’s important neighbors. We are willing to enhance friendly cooperation with both countries, and hope that differences between these two countries can be properly handled.

Reuters: This is regarding the Alaska summit as well. Would China be willing to provide security guarantees in any Russia-Ukraine peace settlement?

Mao Ning: We don’t respond to hypothetical questions.

AFP: Hong Kong democracy activist Tony Chung, who was the youngest person to be jailed under its national security law, has been granted asylum in the UK. What is the Foreign Ministry’s comment on this?

Mao Ning: The person you mentioned is an anti-China rioter and has been issued an arrest warrant by the Hong Kong police in accordance with the law. The Hong Kong SAR government issued a statement, opposing “the harboring of criminals in any form by any country.” We urge relevant countries to respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, which are also China’s internal affairs, in any form.

Bloomberg: The DPRK’s Kim Jong Un has called for the rapid escalation of nuclearization, saying that the security environment around North Korea is getting more serious by the day. Does the Foreign Ministry have a comment on Kim Jong Un’s calls for rapid escalation of nuclearization?

Mao Ning: Our basic position on the Korean Peninsula issue has not changed. We hope relevant parties will face up to the root cause and crux of the Korean Peninsula issue, jointly safeguard peace and stability on the Peninsula, and advance the political settlement of the issue.

Reuters: Indian media is reporting today that Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Indian officials that China had lifted export restrictions on rare earth to India. Are these reports accurate? Does this refer to all export licenses or has India been given exemptions?

Mao Ning: I’m not aware of the reports you mentioned. Let me say broadly that we stand ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with relevant countries and regions and jointly keep global industrial and supply chains stable.

AFP: Myanmar’s junta said on Monday that it would hold its general election starting on December 28. Does the Foreign Ministry have a comment on this?

Mao Ning: The general election is Myanmar’s internal affair. China maintains that all parties and factions in Myanmar need to bear in mind the long-term interests of the country and the nation, seek dialogue and reconciliation within the framework of the Constitution and laws, restore social stability in the country as soon as possible and promote the political transition process.

PTI: Today Mr. Wang Yi is attending the 24th special representatives’ talks on the border issue with his counterpart NSA of India Mr. Doval. Do you have any update on this particular talks? If you have, please share.

Bloomberg: Earlier this month, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that Chinese leader was expected to attend the summit related to ASEAN to be held in Kuala Lumpur in October. Will Chinese leader attend the ASEAN summit? Do you have any confirmation or further details about this?

Mao Ning: I have no information to share on the specifics that you mentioned, but what I can tell you is that China always attaches importance to our relations with ASEAN and to East Asian cooperation.

Bloomberg: The U.S. is planning to send three guided-missile vessels to the waters of Venezuela. These are military ships that they’re sending to the waters of Venezuela. This is planned to happen in the next 36 hours to address what Washington sees as the threat from drug cartels. Does the Chinese Foreign Ministry have any comment about such activity by the U.S. off the coast of Venezuela for the issue of drug cartels?

Mao Ning: I’m not aware of the specifics that you mentioned. Let me say more broadly that combating drug-related crimes is the responsibility of all countries. Major countries need to fulfill their due responsibility and properly handle relevant issues while upholding regional peace and stability.

Bloomberg: Just on the visit to Pakistan and the current visit to India. I would like to ask more broadly, does this present a challenge to China to pursue relationships and improve relationships with both India and Pakistan at the same time, given the troubled history between the two countries and the current state of affairs? How might you reconcile that going forward?

Mao Ning: Both India and Pakistan are China’s important neighbors. China is willing to conduct friendly cooperation with both countries. As for issues between them, we hope they will find proper solutions. China stands ready to play a constructive role in light of their will.
