On January 24, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met with visiting Minister of Finance of Ethiopia Ahmed Shide at the latter's request.

Chen Xiaodong said that China and Ethiopia are all-weather strategic partners. During the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali reached important common understandings on deepening cooperation between the two countries in various fields, providing strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Ethiopia to deliver on the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries and the outcomes of the Summit, deepen all-weather friendship, expand all-round cooperation, and promote in-depth and solid progress in the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries.

Ahmed Shide thanked China for its long-term and active support for Ethiopia's economic and social development, saying that Ethiopia attaches great importance to developing the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries. Ethiopia is willing to work with China to follow the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and finance, and promote the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit in Ethiopia.
