On May 19, 2025, Assistant Foreign Minister and concurrently Vice President of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) Miao Deyu met respectively with Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pierre Krähenbühl and Under Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Christopher Rassi in Geneva, Switzerland.
Miao Deyu said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to international humanitarian causes. In October last year, President Xi Jinping sent a letter to the 12th general congress of the RCSC, in which he clearly stated that the RCSC should actively participate in and support international humanitarian causes, and make new contributions to advancing the cause of building China into a great modern socialist country and achieving national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization, as well as promoting human peace and progress. In recent years, the RCSC has actively served the national emergency response efforts and further carried out humanitarian assistance work. At the same time, the RCSC has been committed to international humanitarian exchanges and cooperation, taken part in a series of major international relief missions and played a constructive role in promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind through concrete actions. The RCSC is ready to strengthen synergy and cooperation with the ICRC and the IFRC to better advance the global humanitarian cause.
Pierre Krähenbühl and Christopher Rassi said that China has actively participated in global humanitarian actions and has made significant contributions. The current global security situation is grave, with protracted hotspot issues and increasing difficulties in international humanitarian rescue efforts. The ICRC and the IFRC hope to enhance high-level exchanges with China, advance initiatives on international humanitarian law, jointly address risks and challenges, strengthen dialogue and cooperation alignment, and inject fresh momentum into the global humanitarian cause.
