From June 3 to 4, 2025, China and Laos held consultations on a "juxtaposed border control" arrangement to facilitate customs clearance for China-Laos Railway in Jinghong, Yunnan Province. The consultations were co-chaired by Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Hong Liang and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Phongsavanh Sisoulath. Representatives from both countries' foreign affairs, public security, customs, immigration, railway and other departments as well as from border provinces and regions attended the consultations.
The consultations were conducted in a friendly, candid, and pragmatic atmosphere. Guided by the important common understandings reached between the leaders of both countries, the two sides had in-depth communication on implementing a "juxtaposed border control" arrangement at the Mohan (China)-Boten (Laos) railway port for passenger transport, making positive progress.
Both sides agreed to accelerate the consultation process and strive to reach an agreement on the "juxtaposed border control" arrangement at an early date, so as to further improve the cross-border travel experience on the China-Laos Railway, enhance the quality and efficiency of the railway, and contribute to the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future.
The two sides jointly inspected the operations at the Mohan railway port.
