Head of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Lodges Strong Protest with the Japanese Side over the Visit to Japan by Head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Taiwan Authorities

On July 25, 2025, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong urgently summoned Chief Minister of the Embassy of Japan in China Yokochi Akira to lodge stern representations and a strong protest over the visit to Japan by head of the foreign affairs office of the Taiwan authorities Lin Chia-lung.

Liu said that the Taiwan question is at the very core of China's core interests and bears on the political foundation of China-Japan relations and the basic trust between the two countries. The Japanese side, by conniving in Lin's visit under the pretext of a so-called "private capacity" and providing a platform for his anti-China separatist political activities, has sent a seriously wrong signal. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan. China urges Japan to abide by the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and the solemn commitments it has made on the Taiwan question, and to take immediate measures to eliminate the egregious impact of this incident.
