On August 28, 2025, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Ambassador of the Maldives to China Fazeel Najeeb. The two sides had friendly exchanges on China-Maldives relations and high-level interactions.

Liu Jinsong quoted a Maldivian proverb, "Only those who process with their own hands can taste the mangrove fruits that are not bitter," expressing that consolidating and developing China-Maldives relations requires unremitting efforts from both sides. Only hard work can bring rewards. At the same time, self-reliance and finding a development path suited to one's own national conditions are crucial. As a friendly neighbor, China is ready to support the Maldives' economic and social development to the best of its ability. Fazeel Najeeb thanked China for its strong support to the Maldives and looked forward to strengthening cooperation in economy, trade, finance, tourism and other fields.
