On April 10, 2026, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hu Changchun visited Eritrea and met with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Eritrea Dai Demao and other officials attended the meetings.

Isaias Afwerki stated that the current international and regional landscape is marked by both turbulence and instability. Eritrea hopes to strengthen solidarity and coordination with China, uphold the international order based on international law, defend the interests of the Global South, and promote peace and development in the Horn of Africa.

Hu Changchun stated that China stands ready to work together with Eritrea to continuously deepen the China-Eritrea strategic partnership, strengthen the alignment of development strategies between the two countries, and actively implement the Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa (HOA), making new contributions to regional peace and prosperity.
