On May 26, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone Francess Piagie Alghali.

Miao Deyu stated that China and Sierra Leone enjoy a time-honored friendship. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the two countries have firmly supported each other, conducted highly effective cooperation in economic and social development, and maintained close coordination on international affairs, setting a fine example for China-Africa solidarity and cooperation. Taking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as opportunities, China stands ready to work with Sierra Leone to consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen solidarity and collaboration, fully leverage the zero-tariff policy to expand practical cooperation, and steadily add more substance to the China-Sierra Leone comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Francess Piagie Alghali expressed sincere gratitude to China for its long-standing support for Sierra Leone’s economic and social development, especially for standing side by side with Sierra Leone in the fight against the Ebola epidemic. Sierra Leone adheres to the one-China principle, regards China as a priority cooperation partner, and stands ready to further deepen cooperation in economy and trade, medical and health care, human resources and other fields, step up multilateral coordination, promote more results from bilateral friendly cooperation.
