On June 12, 2024, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei called on the newly appointed Governor of Farwaniya Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah.

Ambassador Zhang congratulated Athbi on his appointment. He pointed out that sub-national cooperation is an integral part of China-Kuwait cooperation and the Governorate of Farwaniya has for long maintained friendly exchanges with China. The Chinese Embassy will support the governorate in leveraging its advantages to expand the friendly and mutually-beneficial cooperation with China in the areas of tourism, education, economy, trade and culture and make greater contributions to the future growth of bilateral relations.

For his part, Athbi briefed Ambassador Zhang on the governorate’s situation and economic development, saying that as the most populous governorate in Kuwait, the Governorate of Farwaniya boasts a thriving business environment and unique resources. The Kuwaiti side always treats China as a trustworthy partner. Chinese enterprises’ active engagement in Kuwait’s economic progress over the past years has contributed significantly to the country’s development. The Governorate of Farwaniya welcomes a larger number of Chinese companies to invest and do business in the governorate and will discuss with China the possibility to form sister provinces in order to deepen and substantiate Kuwait-China relationship.
