On August 15, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di met with Leader of the Bloc Québécois Mr. Yves-François Blanchet.
Ambassador Wang highlighted that China and Canada are traditional friends and practical cooperation between the two sides has brought tangible benefits to the people of the two countries. Six Chinese provinces and cities have established seven pairs of sister provinces and cities with Quebec, rendering sub-national cooperation between the two sides a good foundation and broad prospects. China supports its provinces and cities to carry out exchanges with Quebec, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields and deepen their interaction with the sister province and cities for the benefit of the people of both sides.
Ambassador Wang emphasized that the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests and is highly sensitive politically. The one-China principle is the political foundation of China-Canada relations. He also expressed China’s position on issues related to human rights, Xinjiang, Tibet and tariffs on Chinese EVs.
Mr. Blanchet said that China is a major country with world influence, and the Bloc Québécois stands ready to enhance communication with the Chinese side and strengthen practical cooperation in the fields of trade, environmental protection, and culture.
