Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Fan Yong Attends Happy Chinese New Year 2025 at Legae English Medium School

ON January 29, Ambassador Fan Yong and his wife attended Happy Chinese New Year 2025 at Legae English Medium School. Naseema Karodia, Headteacher of Legae English Medium School and Pu Durong, Director of the Confucius Institute of UB attended.

Ambassador said that Spring Festival is the oldest and most important traditional festival in Chinese culture. He was very delighted to see that more and more Botswana children are passionate to learn the Chinese language and show more enthusiasm in learning Chinese culture. In year 2023, Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping initiated the Global Civilization Initiative, which called for respect for the diversity of civilizations and uphold the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations. China welcomes Botswana side to respond actively to the Global Civilization Initiative and to further enhance the cultural exchange and cooperation between our people. This year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Botswana. He hopes that Botswana children could be young envoys of China-Botswana friendship, and make contributions to building a China-Africa community of shared future.

Ambassador Fan and his wife awarded the "China Ambassador award" to the outstanding students of Legae English Medium School. Teachers and students from the Confucius Institute of UB and Legae English Medium School performed Chinese martial arts and traditional dances of Botswana.
